能動性を喚起せよ
子どもを見ていると、心を震わせながら身体が空間に反応している瞬間をよく目にします。高いところがあれば上りたくなり、囲まれたところがあれば身を寄せたくなり、トンネルがあればくぐりたくなる。さらに明るいところや暗いところ、音の響くところ、風の抜けるところ、そして暖かいところと、子どもたちは全身、五感を使って自分と世界との距離に一つ一つ驚きながら、生の喜びを感じているように見えます。こうした発見に満ちた建築が立ち上がることで、子どもたちの能動性を喚起する生き生きとした場が生まれるのではないかと考えました。
敷地はかつて東洋一のマンモス団地と言われた松原団地の中央に位置しています。老朽化による一斉建て替えに伴い、隣接する小学校と幼稚園を残して地域全域が更地となり、新たな町が立ち上がろうとしていました。隣棟間隔の広い当時の団地は、守られた中にたっぷりと緑地があり、内外一体となって子どもたちが遊んでいました。そこでこの土地に根付くその原風景を、新たなかたちで築いていこうと考えました。
建物は紙コップを横にして半分に切ったような形をしています。その傾いたトンネル状の空間が大きさや傾きを変えながら９棟連なって全体が構成されています。ヴォールトと呼ばれるこの架構は、厚さ180㎜（一部200～250mm）のコンクリートで地上から立ち上がり、前後の庭を繋いでいきます。さらにヴォールトが重なることで浮かび上がる軒下や側面の開口を通して、横方向にも空間が展開し、内外一体となった明るく開かれた場が作られていきます。
こうして相互に連動しながら立ち上がる幾何学の中には、やわらかく包み込まれる安心感と、空間の展開によって促される動きが同居しています。それが子どもたちの能動性を喚起し、自分の居場所の発見と交流を促していきます。ここでの空間体験そのものが子どもたちにとっての原風景となり、多世代を繋ぐ地域の拠点となっていくことを期待しています。
Awaken our activism
When I look at children, I often see moments when their bodies react to the space while their minds are shaking. If there is a high place, we want to climb up, if there is an enclosed place, we want to lean in, if there is a tunnel, we want to pass through. In addition, children can use their whole body and five senses to feel the joy of life while being surprised by the distance between themselves and the world, such as in bright and dark places, where sound echoes, where the wind blows, and where it is warm. It looks like I thought that the creation of such an architecture full of discoveries would create a lively place that arouses children's activism. The site is located in the center of the Matsubara housing complex, which was once said to be the best mammoth housing complex in the Orient. Along with the simultaneous rebuilding due to aging, the entire area was vacant except for the adjacent elementary school and kindergarten, and a new town was about to be built. At that time, housing complexes with wide spaces between adjacent buildings had plenty of green spaces inside and outside, and children played together inside and outside. Therefore, we decided to create a new form of the original scenery rooted in this land. The building is shaped like a paper cup cut in half horizontally. The slanted tunnel-like space is composed of nine buildings that change in size and inclination. This structure, called a vault, is made of concrete with a thickness of 180 mm (200 to 250 mm in some areas) and rises from the ground to connect the front and back gardens. In addition, the space under the eaves and side openings that emerge from overlapping vaults expands the space in the horizontal direction, creating a bright and open space that integrates the inside and outside. In this interlocking geometry, there is a sense of security enveloping you softly and a movement prompted by the development of the space. This arouses children's activism and encourages them to discover their own place and interact with each other. We hope that the space experience itself here will become an original landscape for children, and that it will become a regional base that connects multiple generations.
